Stef Broks interviewed by Riff magazine.
Textures Interview and Live Act at the Ermal Festival 2009.
5 minutes with Stef Broks interviewing Riff’s magazine reporter:
Stef Broks – Ok, we’re ate the Ermal Festival, in Portugal, and this is Vera and she did an awesome performance on stage, I’m going to ask her some questions about her new stuff… a metal girl sponsored by Nivea… it’s amazing!! Can you tell us about it, I know it’s a business stuff, but tell us about it!
Vera – It’s a fresh deodorant, so it’s kind of giving a fresh air to metal… and it smells good!
Stef Broks – So, it’s the first clean thing in metal!!! Wow, everything it’s dirty… I’m dirty!! All the stinky smell… beer and stuff… and here she is smelling good! Get it in stores!!
The real interview…
Vera – So, you’re not sponsored by Nivea?
Stef – Well, now that I know you, and since you’re sponsored by deodorant Nivea, I’ll think about it… maybe you can give their number, I can contact them!
Vera – What are you thinking, so far, about the fest?
Stef – It’s really fresh, because there’s a lot of water over here… actually it’s the first festival where I played and swam, so I’m very fresh … although the deodorant it’s helping … the weather it’s very nice, and Portugal has a smell on it’s one, it’s really bizarre! I told the guys, because I was here before on vacations in Lisbon, which is really nice, and there’s a kind of natural sense, it’s something to do with the trees and the natural smells, ‘cause we’re coming from the most dirty place ever in Holland, where all the factories are and dirty rivers, but here is really nice, the air is fresh, the women are also kind of fresh… even men… I really liked, but tomorrow we have to go back, and it sucks!
Vera – Where you’re going from here?
Stef – We’re going to Belgium, we’ll play there… it’s a weekend trip. We played here in Portugal, then Belgium and then we hit Holland… we’re going home all the time… and this done for this weekend! Next week, we’re going to Estonia, Russia and after that we’re going to India, and that’s it, these are the craziest trips we’ll done!
Vera – You’re going to play in India… tell us about that!
Stef – We discovered there’s a gap between the European scene, maybe I should say, western scene – America and Europe – and other stuff, and there’s a video being release by this guy Sam Dunn, a documentary about metal scenes all over the world, not only America or Europe, so since there’s a “gazillion” people in India, there’s a lot of people who likes metal, there are magazines and stuffs, and we discovered that a lot of people likes us over there, and we’ve been on front page and stuff… it’s bizarre! So now ee’re going there with Killswitch Engage and Anthrax, that’s kind of a bill! We’re going to New Deli, I think we’re going to make it a cultural trip as well, because we’re very much intercultural, not very much into rock n’ roll stuff. I really want to see the Taj Mahal, try the smell of the movie (Slumdog Millionaire) `cause there’s a good atmosphere, it’s a beautiful culture… I want to go there.
Vera – What about the fans? What are you expecting?
Stef – I don’t know, I really don’t know! The only thing we have in common is that we speak english and they speak english.
Vera – What about these fans in here, what do you think of them?
Stef – I didn’t see them, it was too much light in my face, but I really like it and, well maybe it’s a cliché, but we’re coming from North Europe and when we’re going to the South people are looser, more open, more expressive and you can felt it on the audience. It may be that some people here didn’t know us, but I think we get some new fans. Our last album it’s the third and last one on Listenable Records because we just signed by Nuclear Blast. It’s hard to describe what we make, we just call it metal because it’s too hard to put a name on it, because we have so many influences from all kinds of metal, the only thing I can say for sure that it is, is that is a modern thing… a modern sound with a lot of inspirations – Devin Townsend, Meshuggah, Death... – that kind of stuff.
